Design of a country house
Designing a country house is a difficult, painstaking, necessary task and is by no means limited to a simple house layout. This is the first and, perhaps, the basic stage of the entire construction. After all, whether the cottage project will become a real cozy and comfortable country house will depend on compliance with all technical points “on paper” and adjustments “on the ground”, taking into account the climatic features of the territory, and, of course, your own considerations.
First, you will need to decide which house project to choose. Developing an individual project for a cottage is preferable. Using the services of qualified specialists, you have every right to count on the embodiment of your dream (only regarding your home, of course, and not life in general) in reality. The second option is to use a ready-made project, which professional architects and designers can easily adapt to your needs, taking into account all the wishes expressed. In no case should you demand the implementation of your own house project one-to-one if you hear urgent recommendations to change it from the experts of the construction company. And vice versa, if its employees are happy to take your project into circulation, it is worth thinking about the level of their professional qualities.
As noted, drawing up a house plan is only part of the whole – the house project. Another component is the arrangement of the entire surrounding area of the future wooden house. These are all kinds of communications and sewerage, water and electricity supply, technical and other buildings, approaches and driveways to the house, etc.
At the stage of designing a house, the wind rose and landscape are taken into account, on the basis of which a decision is made on possible options for the spatial orientation of the building. Detailed planning of the site is carried out, landscape design is developed based on the existing relief and surrounding landscape, all proposed measures for landscaping and improvement of the territory.
Designing a house as such, i.e. the building itself, is also a long process and requires the highest qualifications. A competent architect will spend 2-3 months on calculating the structure, taking into account the distribution of all loads on the supporting elements. In the design of a wooden house, it is necessary to take into account the phenomenon of longitudinal and transverse “shrinkage” of logs, so that cracks and gaps do not form later, which will be simply impossible to reach after the end of construction.
Particular attention should be paid to the foundation of the building. Here, there is no need to rush and, especially, to lay it yourself before the approval of the house project by the company that has undertaken its construction. After a thorough calculation of the wooden structure and due to its lightness, it becomes possible to use a columnar or strip foundation, which significantly reduces the financial costs of construction as a whole.
An equally important point is the correct choice of the shape of the house. A common (and popular!) mistake is to use a “mountain approach” in plain conditions, when the house has irregular outlines and a large number of angles. This is justified in mountainous areas, where it is necessary to adapt to the existing relief. But in any other cases, it only increases the heat transfer area, and therefore requires additional costs to ensure proper thermal insulation. For the same reason, you should not design houses of great length.
The result of the design is obtaining the documentation necessary for the construction of the house:
* a draft design;
* an architectural project;
* a set of process drawings for subsequent assembly;
* a set of drawings and documentation for engineering systems;
* specifications for the elements necessary for construction.
In conclusion, we note that this article is for informational purposes only and gives a general idea of the design of a country house and its features in the case of creating a wooden house project. Therefore, here we did not touch on such issues as comparing different types of wood and technologies for building wooden houses.
