Pool on the terrace

When building a terrace with a swimming pool, it is better to use simple geometric shapes – they will easily fit into any landscape and architectural style. It is also worth considering that a rounded shape, which a terrace with a swimming pool can have , will be cheaper than a rectangular or square design. Typically, builders, when calculating the cost of an object, calculate the perimeter, not the geometry. Accordingly, the cost of a pool with a terrace increases if the structure has a complex shape due to the characteristics of the site or the wishes of the customer. 

Design features of a terrace with a swimming pool

When designing, you should take into account not only the area where the pool and terrace will be located , but also the space around this perimeter. To ensure that the water is polluted as little as possible, a flooring should be made, the width of which is 1.5-2 m from the side. The cost of the structure also determines the height of the terrace near the pool . The higher the design, the more expensive it will cost. Approaches to the flooring should also be at a high or, conversely, low installation. Therefore, you will have to additionally install steps, which are best made from the same material as the entire floor.

The depth of the pool is also of great importance. To swim freely, a depth of up to 1.5 m is sufficient. If the pool on the veranda will be used by children, then a separate shallow area should be allocated for them. The main thing to remember is that building a monolithic house is difficult even for experienced builders, and creating a monolithic pool with a deep bowl is also not an easy task. Therefore, in any case, you need to hire professionals for such work.

Materials from which the terrace and pool are built

Typically, the building materials from which a terrace or swimming pool is made are presented in two versions. A combination of them is also used – it all depends on the type of structure, its scale and the desire of the customer. 

Pool terrace – what materials to use

If the terrace around the pool is made of wood, then the following structural elements will be needed during the manufacturing process:

• rather;
• lies;
• planking;
• steps and railings (if the pool bowl is at a height).

The main types of wood used for these purposes are oak, coniferous species, and teak. They are pre-treated with special compounds that protect against moisture and pests. In order for such a pool terrace to have a solid foundation, the following are used as racks:

• metal profiled pipes;
• metal corners;
• concrete supports;
• frost-resistant plastic supports that can be adjusted. 

A more expensive option is a columnar, strip foundation, which is more often used in the construction of two- or three-story buildings, buildings made of heavy building materials, for example, natural stone. 

The main advantages of having a pool deck made of wood:

• one of the most pleasant to the touch materials, which practically does not heat up in direct sunlight;
• construction speed – up to 3-4 days;
• fits easily into the landscape around the pool ;
• the boards have shock-absorbing properties, so even if you fall there will be no severe bruises.

Also, instead of natural wood, you can use a modern material – a wood-polymer composite, which has the same properties, but is more durable. 

A terrace with a swimming pool in a country house made of concrete, natural stone or paving stones will be more expensive than wooden flooring, but it also has its advantages. This is already the most durable foundation, which is not afraid of either moisture or pests, but at the same time you will have to spend a lot of time on its arrangement. Non-slip ceramic tiles with frost-resistant properties are laid on top of the concrete (stone) base. You can also use porcelain stoneware or clinker tiles. In rainy climates, they are considering installing a veranda with a swimming pool – it can be made collapsible or made with a transparent canopy. 

Pool materials

The pool itself is also made in several versions. The simplest ones are inflatable or modular. Such structures are easy to assemble and disassemble, which is especially convenient when the pool is not used during the cold season. Such a frame pool with a terrace has another advantage – you don’t have to clean it in the fall and winter, and the wooden flooring can be made not only around the perimeter, but also along one side with the ability to disassemble the structure. 

Stationary pools made of vinyl, fiberglass or concrete look more presentable, and the structures themselves are much more durable:

• Vinyl bowls are relatively inexpensive, easy to clean, but have a service life of up to 10 years. For a small pool on the veranda, this option may be the most optimal.
• A fiberglass bowl can be purchased either solid or collapsible. Collapsible structures can be quite large, while solid ones are limited in size. Such structures fit perfectly into the landscape near the pool , and can last up to 25 years. Another advantage is that they are easy to clean from dirt and plaque. 
• Concrete bowls are an opportunity to create a pool of any shape, size, with various projections and other structural features. The bowl is faced with either ceramic tiles or mosaics. But this option has two significant drawbacks: high cost and the need to regularly clean the inner surface. Although the service life of such structures is impressive – up to 50 years.

Landscape around the pool – basic rules

Using new technologies for the construction of country houses , specialists do not lag behind in this matter in the direction of building swimming pools with verandas and terraces. A terrace for a frame pool can fit so organically into the existing landscape that after the work is completed it is no longer possible to imagine the yard without this structure. Houses made from environmentally friendly materials have become very popular , so they also try to make all buildings on a plot of land exclusively from such building materials. 

So, the basic rules for placement:

• the ability to view the surrounding area – especially if children live in the house;
• provide for the presence of drains for rainwater that will not flood the area;
• decorative landscape and architectural decorations are installed away from the pool;
• the distance from the house should be such that in an emergency, water does not flood the building.
